Hollókő – A hidden gem in Hungary

Located about 1 hour drive from Budapest, in Nograde country. The little village called Hollókő or “Raven-stone” is an UNESCO World Heritage place. It is a Paloc ethnographic settlement surrounded by the low peaks of Cserhát Mountains.

The population is merely 380 people living in over hundred years old houses. In the heart of the village we find the famous Catholic Church dating back to 1889. The building has wooden towers and shingled roof, and it is an iconic spot. Around the church we find a row of authentic white-washed Paloc houses with hipped roofs and verandas giving place to exhibitions, museums, workshops, restaurants where we can have a test of real Paloc gastronomy.

The village is alive, there are many events, festivals, but clearly one of the most famous one is the Easter Fest. The traditional folkloric costumes are richly decorated and wore not only by the elders.

If you are planning to visit the museums, exhibitions in the old village and the castle you can buy tickets every day from 10:00 – 15:30. The full price is 3 500 HUF (12 EUR), the discount price is 2 500 HUF (8 EUR).
